A Structural Chiropractic Approach in Te Puke Bay of Plenty NZ To Bedwetting (AKA Nocturnal Enuresis)

Bedwetting is one of my favorite things to help our smaller spines with here in the Te Puke Bay of Plenty NZ and Bay of Plenty region.

Just what causes Nocturnal Enuresis (the fancy word for bed wetting) and is there any help for this problem? This is a growing problem and one that causes families a great deal of stress. The little ones don’t want to have sleepovers for fear of wetting the bed and overtime lose self-confidence.  A bedwetting child in Te Puke Bay of Plenty NZ is typically a very active child, often playing to exhaustion and when at sleep, doing so in a deep state and waking up with a wet bed.

Helping Children With Bedwetting in Te Puke Bay of Plenty NZ

During my 15 years of full-time practice, I have seen a high number of children brought in suffering from this condition. At my clinic in Te Puke Bay of Plenty NZ from 2010-2016, I had dozens of kids present with a very regular history of bedwetting. My experience has shown that these kids, typically more males than females, and aged anywhere from 6 – 14 years old, often have structural shifts in their spine when they are examined. These structural shifts, similar to the foundation of a house not being within normal range, results in abnormal nerve flow to organs like the bowel and bladder. These shifts or misalignments of the sacral bones or lower vertebrae often come about as a result of falls or rough play, and the interference that results doesn’t allow the nerves of the body to function and work to the best of their ability.

The only real way to see if chiropractic care will help Nocturnal Enuresis is to actually try it. A Chiropractic examination takes place first which objectively determines the presence or absence of shifts within the spine. From there, if shifts are present, gentle and specific corrections are made to correct and stabilize the underlying problem. Doing this removes pressure from the nerves which allows the body to once again function the way it was designed to, just like levelling out the foundation of a house instead of constantly repairing the cracks in the wall. For the vast majority of children checked in our clinic, there has either been a significant overall improvement or it has completely solved the problem.

If your child or someone you know is suffering the anguish of bed wetting, feel free to call us at (07) 573 9988 for a complimentary consultation and to set up a time to have your child’s spine and nervous system checked.
